Nayib Bukele says no damage reported in El Salvador after 6.1 magnitude earthquake

After the 6.1 magnitude earthquake with its epicenter on the coasts of El Salvadorthe Salvadoran president, Nayib Bukeleannounced that no damage was reported.

He also said there were two large-scale aftershocks: 4.1 and 4.5 magnitude.

Through his social network account X, Bukele He reported: “After the 6.1 magnitude earthquake (the figure of 6.0 has been revised upwards), there have been two strong aftershocks of 4.1 and 4.5. Thank God there have been no personal or material damages reported so far. 100% of services and traffic on roads continue without interruptions.”

“There have been no personal or material damages reported so far. Electricity, telephone, internet, everything is working normally. Thank God,” the president said.

Earthquake in El Salvador

Bukele shared a bulletin from the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources of El Salvador which indicates that the magnitude of the earthquake was 6.1 degrees, and the location was off the coast of La Libertad.

“Produced by the dynamics of the subduction process,” the entity explained about the seismic event.

Sensitive in Guatemala

This Wednesday, August 28th, reported a strong earthquake in Guatemalan territory.

According to the National Institute of Seismology, Volcanology, Meteorology and Hydrology (Insivumeh), the earthquake was 6.2 and its epicenter was recorded on the Pacific coast of El Salvador.

The report detailed that the epicenter was recorded 160 km from the departmental capital of Jutiapa, 172 kilometers from Cuilapa, Santa Rosa, and 200 km from Jalapa.
