NEW YORK, SEPTEMBER 17 – With the highest scores in terms of the scope and quality of online services, the state of telecommunications infrastructure and human capacity, Denmark, Estonia and Singapore are the leading countries in the 2024 Digital Government Ranking released today by the United Nations. Europe at large leads the way in e-government development thanks to the key role of the EU and its executive arm the European Commission. One of the few European countries bucking the trend, Italy slips from 37th place two years ago to 51st.
However, there is one Italian place of excellence highlighted in the report Accelerating Digital Transformation for Sustainable Development, presented to the UN by Navid Hanif, assistant secretary-general for economic development, and Vincenzo Aquaro, head of the e-government department of UN/DESA: the Space Economy Evolution Laboratory (SEE Lab) of Bocconi, committed to exploiting the space economy in light of the fact that space technologies impact over 50 percent of the Sustainable Development Goals and promote global socioeconomic progress and geopolitical stability.
