Gwyneth Paltrow found it “very difficult” when she became stepmother to her husband Brad Falchuk’s children.
The star is mum to Apple, 19, and son Moses, 17, with ex Chris Martin and she became stepmother to Brad’s children (Brody, 17, and Isabella, 19, from from a previous relationship) when the couple tied the knot in 2018, and the Goop founder says it was a particularly difficult time for her.
During a Q&A with fans on Instagram, Gwyneth was asked, “Do you sometimes find it hard to be a stepmom?” and the actress replied: “I found it really difficult at first, there is no book regarding it, no one really tells us what to do (…). In fact, all the existing media around what a mother-in-law is presents us in a mean, infamous light. It’s kind of like you’re trying to avoid mines. There’s all kinds of fears around loss and what that new person means”.
However, Gwyneth explained that she finally figured it out and now has an “awesome” relationship with her stepchildren.
She added: “As far as I was concerned, as soon as I decided and fully accepted the idea that my stepchildren were my children and that I loved them equally, that I gave them the same rules and the same limits and as I threw myself into the adventure, everything became easier. And now it’s really great.”
