In Switzerland, around three out of four companies are in family hands, according to figures put forward in recent years by the Geneva Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Services (CCIG) and BCGE. Which, in 2017, represented 375,000 SMEs, totaling 1.6 million employees and generating 60% of the national GDP. Resilient, loyal, reliable, hardworking, patient: the adjectives that describe this type of company demonstrate an entrepreneurial tradition that is still relevant, even in an economic climate where the search for short-term profit seems to obsess businesses. serial entrepreneurs and shareholders. “A family business is above all a name and a face with which partners, suppliers and customers identify,” underlines Laurence Quennoz, head of the construction and civil engineering company Evéquoz, in Conthey. “In this sense, we still benefit from a capital of sympathy which translates into a certain solidarity, even if competition with large groups intensifies.”
