From 12 noon (CET) supporters can say goodbye to Navalny. When Alexei Navalny’s coffin reached the church in a black van, the crowd clapped – and shouted: “You weren’t afraid, neither are we.”
Some of those waiting knocked down barriers to get to church more quickly. The ambassadors from Germany, France and the USA also arrived in front of the church to pay their last respects to Navalny.
In the church, people stood in front of Navalny’s open coffin. They sang and prayed for the deceased, whose body is covered with many red and white roses. Navalny’s mother was among the crowd at the church. After his death, Lyudmila Navalnaya searched for her son for days.

The funeral will take place at the Borisovskoye cemetery. Video footage showed Navalny’s mother saying goodbye to her son. While a string section played Frank Sinatra’s song “My Way,” Navalny’s coffin was lowered into the ground.
Cries of protest can be heard once more and once more during the funeral. People chanted: “Russia without Putin!”, “Putin is a murderer!” or “Russia will be free!” There was a tense atmosphere as many uniformed officers from the Omon Special Police were also present.

In a live stream on YouTube, Navalny’s team showed how men pulled the brown coffin out of a black van and then carried it into the church in unison. Hundreds of thousands watched the broadcast. Alexei Navalny’s team announced in the live stream of the funeral that they were offering the equivalent of 100,000 euros to provide information regarding the circumstances of his death.
