  • Queen Maxima flew to Tanzania as the UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for Financial Inclusion and Development.

  • In a good mood and totally unstylish, the 51-year-old got off the plane.

Elegant styling, glamorous make-up and always a big smile on her face – this is how Queen Maxima is known from her numerous public appearances and appointments. Although the broad smile can also be seen in the latest photos of the 51-year-old from Africa, following landing, you almost didn’t recognize her at first glance.

The Dutch Royal flew to Tanzania for a two-day trip as the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Financial Inclusion and Development. Completely without make-up and without an elaborately styled hairstyle, but including optical glasses from Tom Ford, the mother of three got off the plane on Tuesday and showed herself to the waiting reporters in an unusually natural look.

Maxima wears loafers with socks

For the long journey, she chose a comfortable outfit in black, consisting of a blazer jacket by Chloé and casual trousers. The royal choice of shoes is surprising, however: the wife of King Willem-Alexander (55) wore her loafers from Banana Republic with rivets in combination with cozy cotton socks.

Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro Airport, Maxima was met by Tanzanian government officials. Locals in traditional kangas – the Tanzanian clothes – greeted them with a Maasai dance on the runway.

Hours later, the 51-year-old visited ACRE Africa, which has enabled farmers to receive their crop compensation due to the drought crisis, and PharmAcces’ MomCare facility at Charlotte Hospital. MomCare offers pregnant women free prenatal check-ups until they give birth.
