Late last year and early this year, Moscow’s forces launched several large-scale missile and drone attacks once morest Ukraine.
At least 32 people were killed in the deadliest attack in Kyiv on December 29.
“NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg will convene a meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Council next Wednesday,” said NATO spokesman Dylan White.
“The meeting will be held at the level of ambassadors; it was convened at Ukraine’s request following recent Russian missile and drone attacks on Ukrainian civilians, cities and towns,” he added.
According to D. White, NATO allies have already delivered a number of air defense systems to Ukraine and are committed to further strengthening its defenses.
However, according to Kyiv, the latest attacks show that Western allies need to speed up the supply of air defense equipment, combat drones and long-range missiles.
The call came at a time when, due to the division of the US Congress, the support of the United States, the leader of NATO, to the country defending itself from the Kremlin’s invasion is ending.
US President Joe Biden has made support for Ukraine one of his priorities, and American-supplied weapons and financial support are critical to helping Ukrainians fight once morest invading Russian forces.
But hard-line Republicans are seeking to block those efforts and are refusing to approve new budget spending unless Democrats first agree to tough new measures to combat illegal immigration across the US southern border.
