Nations League: Italy wins in Hungary and will go to the Final Four, crazy split between English and Germans

Absent from the next World Cup, the Squadra had to win on the field of the Puskas Arena in Budapest to overtake Hungary, in the lead before this final meeting. On a recovery poorly managed by the local defense and good pressing from Wilfried Gnonto, Naples striker Giacomo Raspadori opened the scoring (0-1, 27th). Inter player Federico Dimarco made the break at the start of the 2nd half (2-0, 52nd).

Already guaranteed to go down to League B next season, Gareth Southgate’s England, though trailing 0-2 20 minutes from time, snatched a spectacular split (3-3) when they received Germany at Wembley.

Ilkay Gundogan opened the scoring with a penalty awarded following the intervention of VAR (0-1, 52nd). The Germans thought they had done the hardest part when Chelsea player Kai Havertz sent a long shot into the top corner of Nick Pope (0-2, 67th).

The English, however, showed pride and character by scoring two goals in the space of four minutes. First by Luke Shaw, on receiving a cross at the far post (1-2, 72nd), then by Mason Mount with a shot outside the rectangle (2-2, 75th).

Harry Kane blew up Wembley by giving his team the lead from the penalty spot (3-2, 83rd) but Havertz, on the lookout for a shot poorly captured by Pope, restored equality in foxing the surfaces (3- 3, 87e).

In the standings, Italy has 11 points and is ahead of Hungary (10), Germany (7) and England (3), who have not won any of their six matches in this group A3.

Everything was played in the other groups this Monday evening. Bosnia and Herzegovina, despite a defeat in Romania (1-4), won group B3 and was promoted to League A. The Romanians were relegated to League C.
