The Netherlands and Croatia already celebrated their entry into the finals of the UEFA Nations League on Sunday. While the Netherlands narrowly beat Belgium with a goal from Virgil van Dijk, Croatia celebrated a 3-1 victory in Austria.
Hungary needed just one win on Monday but lost 2-0 to Italy in Budapest, taking the Italians to the finals next June. Spain secured the final spot on Tuesday with a 1-0 win in Portugal.

state of things
Group 1: Victory in Austria saw Croatia qualify for the finals, despite Denmark’s success once morest France. Austria is relegated to League B.
group 2: Spain narrowly won 1-0 in Portugal to secure their last place in next June’s finals. Switzerland avoided relegation to League B with a 2-1 win once morest the Czech Republic. The Czechs must therefore go down.
group 3: Italy eventually triumphed in Hungary to qualify for the finals at the expense of the hosts. England had previously been relegated.
group 4: The Netherlands eventually beat closest rivals Belgium and qualified for the finals. Wales lost to Poland and are relegated.
How League A of the 2022/23 UEFA Nations League worked
League A consisted of 16 teams playing in four groups of four. Within each group, the teams played each other twice (home and away). The four group winners will advance to the final round, which will be played in June 2023. The bottom of the group is relegated to league B.
