“National University Infrastructure Program: New Buildings for Education Careers and Libraries”

The rector of the National University of Patagonia San Juan Bosco (UNPSJB)Lidia Blanco, signed an agreement for the construction of a building for classrooms and laboratories for Medicine and Nursing careers.

The signing took place last Friday, with the Ministers of Education of the Nation, Jaime Perczyk and of Public Works, Gabriel Katopodis.

The works plan of the National Government involves ten national universities and implies the construction of classrooms, laboratories and libraries, within the framework of the second stage of the National University Infrastructure Program, which contemplates the execution of more than 160 works.

In the case of the UNPSJB, these works are added to those that have already been put into operation this year, which implies more classrooms and laboratories in all venues.

“We believe that in public education and in the public university there is a platform to solve the problems that the country is going through,” Perczyk said during the ceremony that took place at the Sarmiento Palace.

He highlighted the “enormous investment made by the government in the education system to extend the school day in primary schools and in the construction of one hundred technical schools and university infrastructure works.”

“We are expanding the university infrastructure and we are also advancing in finishing works that in many moments were pending. The university system is federal and that is why these works were decided by each one of the Universities”, he stated.

Katopodis explained that “today we signed new agreements for the University Infrastructure Program that we carry out together with the Ministry of Education. There are 13 works for the construction of new buildings with classrooms, laboratories and workshops”.

“Soon Argentina will decide if this is the way: more and better Public University or those who seek to privatize Education,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Secretary of University Policies, Oscar Alpa, maintained that “with the works of the National University Infrastructure Program that are carried out throughout the country, we improve the building conditions of our public universities to continue guaranteeing the right to higher education”.

The program aims to expand coverage and improve the National University System, as well as it is proposed to increase access to Higher Education; optimize the quality of instruction; strengthen the operation and services provided by the institutions and link the human capital trained in the universities with the local productive forces.

The National University Infrastructure Program is carried out jointly with the Ministry of Public Works of the Nation, receives international financing from the Development Bank of Latin America (CAF) and contemplates a total investment of $50.600 million.

The universities that signed the agreements for works were the National University of Cuyo, General San Martín, La Pampa, the National University of Patagonia San Juan Bosco, Salta and San Antonio de Areco.
