National Transplant Day in Paraguay: they urge to favorably modify citizen awareness

Asuncion, IP Agency.- The National Transplant Institute (INAT) will commemorate National Transplant Day on July 9. In Paraguay, it is a priority to favorably modify citizen awareness, since family opposition to this noble act persists, said the president of INAT, Hugo Espinoza.

July 9th commemorates the first heart transplant performed in our country on July 9, 1996, at the Baptist Medical Center in Asunción. The commemoration was instituted by Law No. 5603/15.

In this context, the celebration will take place next Tuesday at 8:00 a.m. at the Baptist Medical Center, and at 10:00 a.m., the main event is scheduled at the INAT in Capitán Lombardo c/ Avda. Santísimo Sacramento, where the recruitment of Bone Marrow donors (CPH) will take place; medical care; as well as nutrition and endocrinology.

National Transplant Day is celebrated in various countries with the aim of highlighting advances in medical science and promoting a supportive and altruistic attitude in society and among authorities regarding the donation of organs, tissues and cells for transplant purposes.

Espinoza said that INAT congratulates and expresses deep gratitude to the authorities, institutions, professionals and generous people who make the advancement of organ donation and transplantation possible in Paraguay, he said.

He said it is essential that as a society we lose our fear of organ and tissue donation and adopt a positive, supportive and altruistic attitude, similar to that of other countries.

He stressed that it is essential that relevant authorities, health institutions and professionals in the sector continue to make efforts to advance this extraordinary field of medical science, thereby providing real hope to patients.
