The closure of 2023 is not positive for the security of the national territory. If we talk regarding violence, a report from legal Medicine showed an increase in this aspect. Minors are among the most affected.

Security, the challenge of elected leaders

In 2024, mayors and governors will have to put a stop to violence in the different cities of the country.

The most recent Forensic Medicine report revealed that homicide increased compared to last year’s figures.

While by November 2022 the number of murders registered 12,045 cases, for the same period, but this 2023, it increased to 12,682 cases, that is, 5.29% more.

Minors are the most murdered

Of this figure, the number of minors who were murdered in the country this year is striking. According to Forensic Medicine, 547 minors under 18 years of age lost their lives.

Another aspect of concern is mental health. According to the report, while between January and November 2022 it was recorded that 2,584 people took their lives, in the same period of 2023 there were 2,868 cases of suicide. There was an increase of 10.99%.

Regarding other figures, another that also increased was that of domestic violence: in 2022, 55,864 cases were registered and in 2023 there were 57,982 cases. In this case, 44,675 women and 13,307 men were victims.

Faced with this panorama, the Attorney General’s Office recently gave the Minister of Defense, Iván Velásquez, a strong slap on the wrist, reminding him that his main task is to combat violence and provide security to all Colombians.
