Train service was reduced as the railroad union went on a five-day general strike starting at 9 a.m. on the 14th.
It has been four years since November 2019 that the railroad union went on strike.
The union viewed the separate operation of SRT and KTX as a step toward privatizing the railway, and demanded opposition to privatization and the full introduction of 4 groups and 2 shifts.
The Honam Regional Headquarters of the Railway Workers’ Union also held a general strike ceremony in front of Gwangju Songjeong Station with over 1,000 union members in attendance.

Due to the strike, the Honam Line, Jeolla Line, and Gyeongjeon Line were reduced to 62% of normal operation on a daily basis.
KTX trains have been reduced to 69% of the usual capacity from 78 to 54, and freight trains are operating at only 20% of the capacity.
Citizen voices continued to call for the government and union to quickly find a solution and prevent a prolonged strike.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport is considering deploying additional express buses and intercity buses on weekends when passenger demand is high.
The railroad union plans to go on a second strike for four days starting on the 21st if the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport does not accept its demands.
