On the morning of this January 1st, the National Police presented a security report during the last night and the last month of 2023, noting that during the year-end celebration there were 26 homicides, 18 cases less than in 2022, achieving a reduction of 41 percent.

Throughout the month of December, according to the institution, no homicides were recorded in 763 municipalities, and in general a reduction of 3.7 percent was achieved compared to the 2022 figures, and the main cities with the greatest decrease during the last month of the year were Cali (-23.4%), Bucaramanga (-45.0%), Bogotá (-8.2%), Cartagena (-11.4%), Ibagué (-50.0%) and Quibdó (-54.5%).
Another piece of information provided by General Sandra Patricia Hernández Garzón, deputy director (in charge) of the National Police, was that during the night of December 31 and the early morning of January 1, 2024, the institution received more than 27,250 calls through the emergency line 123, of these reports, 669 corresponded to episodes of disturbance of tranquility and 1,554 corresponded to situations of fights, which gives an average, according to the Police, of 173 fights every hour.

To implement the security plan this December, more than 100,000 police officers were deployed throughout the country and there were more than 30 drones, 29 helicopters, 20 airplanes, 3,649 motorcycles, 995 vehicles, 43 cranes and 13 armored vehicles to support the police service.
On New Year’s Eve, more than 778 summonses were made for violating the Police Code, and throughout December the National Police carried out 98,841 summonses for different violations of the National Code of Security and Citizen Coexistence, of which 1,641 were for behavior related to pyrotechnic articles, 459 for affecting peace, 137 for behaviors due to sounds or noises, 118 for behaviors that affect the integrity of minors; and 10,569 summonses for fighting, inciting or engaging in violent confrontations that might lead to physical attacks.

The deputy director (e) of the Police also noted that in development of the security plan ‘At Christmas Always Present’ the Police captured 7,374 people for different crimes throughout December and 954 firearms and 35,559 sharp weapons were seized.
Reduction of deaths in road accidents
In the controls on the different roads, the Directorate of Traffic and Transportation recorded a 21 percent reduction in fatalities due to road accidents (178 fewer cases), as well as a 17 percent decrease in injuries, with 609 fewer cases than the 2022.
At the end of the year, the Police said, there were 363 drunkenness tests that were positive and 19,396 summonses and 1,991 immobilizations were carried out for traffic violations.
On the other hand, regarding the use of gunpowder, the Police used figures from the National Institute of Health (INS) to indicate that 721 people were injured with gunpowder during December, 235 of them are minors; The data presents a decrease of 79 victims compared to the same period in 2022.

For its part, in these weeks of December the National Police managed to dismantle 15 illegal factories and seize more than 10 tons of gunpowder, valued at more than 1,145 million pesos.
Regarding work once morest adulterated liquor, data from the INS indicate that in December there were no cases of poisoning due to adulterated liquor; and police efforts made it possible to seize more than 17,500 bottles of adulterated liquor and destroy 10 stills.
“We appreciate the good behavior, in general terms, that there was for the new year and we hope to continue deploying all our capabilities for the next Kings Bridge, where we will have all our institutional service deployed,” concluded General Hernández.
