National Police of Peru Captures Leader and Members of Aragua Train Faction in Countrywide Operation

The National Police of Peru (PNP) captured the leader and 30 alleged members of a faction of the Aragua Train, in an operation carried out in Lima and other regions of the country, official sources reported this Thursday.

During the operation, which took place during the night of Wednesday and the early hours of this Thursday, at least 42 nightclubs and properties were also raided.

“The detainees would be immersed in the crimes of criminal organization, kidnapping, extortion and human trafficking for the purposes of sexual exploitation to the detriment of foreign women from the countries of Venezuela and Colombia,” he explained.

The Public Ministry identified, in a statement, the alleged leader of this faction as Yomar José Delgado Palacios, alias “Nino”, who was arrested along with his partner in the district of San Juan de Lurigancho, currently declared in a state of emergency to confront to citizen insecurity.

In this regard, prosecutor Jorge Chávez Cotrina told the RPP radio station that the man tried to flee over the roofs, but was injured, so he had to be transferred to the National Police Hospital.

“The Aragua Train has what it knows as lines here. This is a line or dynasty, called ‘Ayalón’, which is led by ‘Nino’. At the time of the intervention, he went up to the fourth floor of the building and tried to escape,” he commented.

The operation was carried out simultaneously in the Lima districts of San Juan de Lurigancho, Villa María del Triunfo, Los Olivos and Independencia, and in towns in the jungle region of San Martín, the northern region of Cajamarca and the southern region of Arequipa.

Interventions were also carried out in cells in the Lurigancho and Ancón I prisons, in Lima, as well as in Challapalca, in the southern region of Tacna, the Public Ministry said.
