National plan to reduce risks during the rainy season is activated

The Vice Minister for Risk Management and Civil Protection, Carlos Pérez Ampueda, reported that they activated a national plan to reduce risks during the rainy season – which began in the country on May 1 and will end on November 30.

During a press conference broadcast on state-run channel VTV, Pérez Ampueda explained that the plan contains “all contingency protocols for any event” and assured that evacuation plans, the installation of shelters and triage are “being reviewed” to deal with future emergencies.

He indicated that a “task force” will be activated in June to “quickly and immediately” serve all regions of the country, through points established in the cities of Mérida and Barquisimeto, as well as in the capital Caracas and in the states of Portuguesa and Sucre.

For his part, the head of the Government of Caracas, Nahum Fernández, said that clean-up work was done in ravines in the Venezuelan capital, and he also called on citizens to maintain this effort and not to litter, as this creates obstructions.

Meanwhile, the mayor of Caracas, Carmen Meléndez, said that they have done preventive work pruning trees and unclogging drains and sewers since January. “We call on the people (…) not to throw waste into the ravines. We have found refrigerators and washing machines.”
