The National Parks hotel located next to Lake Mascardi, which closed its doors 20 years ago and suffered serious damage during the Mapuche occupation of the contiguous lands, it began to be demolished by decision of the national body.

The building had become unusable, without possible use, as determined by a technical report commissioned following the Justice ordered the eviction of the property, last October.

The same happened with the cabins of the former tourist recreation of the Gas del Estado staff, which were also looted and destroyed. All those buildings began to be demolished and the works were in charge of the provincial government, according to reports from residents of Mascardi.

The hotel structure, which was abandoned, was denounced as occupied in July 2018, seven months following the installation of the Lafken Winkul Mapu lof on neighboring properties.

The large former hotel operated from the 50s until the beginning of this century, and then it was deactivated. In 2016 the government of former president Mauricio Macri announced that he would recycle it to install the park ranger school there, with an investment (at that time) of 28 million pesos. But that project never moved forward.

Three years later, the Lafken Winkul Mapu community began a land occupation on an adjoining lot. The former hotel was vandalized, until it was left without a roof, without openings and with a serious deterioration in the masonry.

By decision of Parks, and with judicial permission, The tasks to demolish the construction have now begun.
