The UAE participated in the 26th General Assembly of the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC), which was held in Seoul, South Korea, from October 19 to 20.
The state was represented in the meeting by a delegation from the National Olympic Committee headed by Engineer Azza bint Suleiman, Assistant Secretary-General for Administrative and Financial Affairs of the Committee, accompanied by Mohammed bin Darwish, Executive Director of the National Olympic Committee.
The meeting witnessed the election of Dr. Robin Mitchell as President of the Federation of National Olympic Committees, following his candidacy for this position without a competitor, and Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad, President of the Qatar Olympic Committee, as Vice-President of the Federation for the period (2022-2026).
The meeting discussed many reports submitted by the organizing committees for the upcoming Olympics, especially the 2024 Paris Olympics, the 2024 Winter Youth Games, the 2026 Winter Games to be held in Italy, the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics, the Brisbane 2032 Olympics, and the ANOC Beach World Games in Bali In Indonesia next year 2023, and recommendations related to the activities of the National Olympic Committees and their participation in the courses supervised by the International Olympic Committee.
It also coincided with the meeting of the General Assembly held in Seoul, the signing of an agreement of understanding between the Olympic Council of Asia and Jeongsun County, Gwangwon Region, to establish the Asian Olympic Academy in South Korea. The Asian Olympic Academy is concerned with the development of education in Asia in coordination with the Education Committee of the Olympic Council of Asia and the International Olympic Academy.
