NNA – Caretaker Minister of Energy and Water, Dr. Walid Fayyad, participated in a conference on the future of energy in the Mediterranean basin, at the invitation of the Union for the Mediterranean and the Mediterranean Observatory for Energy, which is chaired by the former Minister of State for Foreign Affairs in Italy, Lapo Pestali, and directed by Dr. Hoda Ben Janet. In Paris.
Minister Fayyad gave a lecture during which he presented the reality of energy in the Mediterranean region, as well as the latest developments witnessed by the energy sector in Lebanon, in light of the signing of the maritime border demarcation agreement and the commitment of the coalition led by the French company “Total” to accelerate drilling and exploration operations.
Minister Fayyad also touched on “the importance of the step of extending the second licensing cycle to June 2023, especially with the increasing international interest in investing in the gas extraction sector, in light of the stability resulting from the completion of the demarcation and following the repercussions of the war in Ukraine on global markets.”
He stressed to the participants the need for collective action to ensure convergence between the concepts of energy security and the energy transition when approaching the future of the region and aspiring to its stability and the well-being of its peoples.
