NNA – Several explosions and fires occurred at night in 3 provinces in southern Thailand, which is witnessing an armed separatist conflict, according to what was attributed to the authorities by “Agence France Presse”.
The military said seven people were slightly injured in accidents in Pattani, Yala and Narathiwat districts.
It targeted 17 locations, mostly small shops and gas stations following midnight.
Police announced that they will work to obtain CCTV footage and other evidence to determine the cause of the explosions.
The separatists often target symbols of the Thai authority or its security forces.
Since 2004, Buddhist-majority Thailand has witnessed a separatist insurgency in several Muslim-majority provinces close to Malaysia, and the conflict has claimed the lives of regarding 7,300 people, most of them civilians.
Peace negotiations are still stalled between the two parties, despite the decrease in the number of attacks since a coup in 2014. 113 people were killed in 2021 in the conflict, compared to regarding 900 in 2007, according to figures from the Deep South Watch organization.
