NNA – The General Coordinator of the “National Campaign to Liberate Port Detainees”, Captain Maroun El-Khouli, accompanied by Secretary-General of the General Federation of Lebanese Trade Unions Farid Zeinoun, visited Judge Suhail Abboud, President of the Supreme Judicial Council, at the Palace of Justice.
After the meeting, Al-Khouli said in a statement: “Our meeting today is to follow up on the issue of the port detainees, especially following President Abboud’s recent decision regarding referring requests for release to the judicial investigator for the 17 port positions, where he assured us that his decision and the decision of the Public Prosecutor’s Court of Cassation transferred requests for release, to The judicial investigator started from international conventions and covenants that transcend local law, and therefore the final decision today is with the judicial investigator, who must consider these requests from this point of view, regardless of the issue of stopping his hand from the file.
He added: “We discussed with President Abboud the necessity of closing the file of the 17 port detainees without delay and separating it once and for all from the Beirut port case for two basic matters. Illegal or legitimate reserve.
He continued, “The judicial and political system of the Lebanese authorities must end this case immediately and not throw the ball every time in the other’s court and flee behind a closed court that is originally closed and implicitly null and void, and its texts contradict the concept of justice in an exceptional court. The exceptional courts that are tried on one level and their closed texts that led to the disruption of justice instead of imposing it, and the evidence is dozens of forgotten cases in the inclusion of the Judicial Council for major crimes, from the assassination of two presidents of the Republic and spiritual and patriotic personalities to various crimes.
He said: “We are awaiting the decision of the judicial investigator to decide on requests for release within a short period. We will continue to struggle to lift this injustice once morest 17 detainees, and we will work to release them by all possible means in the event that this humanitarian case is not decided, by seeking to determine a specialized court.” To decide on requests for release or an executive decision of the caretaker government that ends a human massacre resulting from the stumbling block in our judicial system of a suspended court due to its rigid texts and due to political obstruction.
