National Meeting of Hemotherapy Coordinators: Promoting Blood and Plasma Donation Integration

The event had more than 300 attendees from national hospitals and social organizations, with the aim that they might integrate their work in promoting blood donation with plasma donation.

The Directorate of Transfusion Medicine (DMT) of the Ministry of Health of the Nation carried out this Tuesday a national meeting of hemotherapy coordinators, which included the participation of leaders on the subject from different provinces of the country.

The conference, organized together with the Argentine Association of Hemotherapy, Immunohematology and Cellular Therapy (AAHITC), brought together ministerial authorities, jurisdictional coordinators, promotion leaders, transfusion medicine services from national hospitals, civil associations and NGOs promoting blood donation , members of the Argentine Chamber of Transfusion Medicine (CAMeT) and the AAHITC, and international exhibitors.

During the opening, the Secretary of Quality in Health, Alejandro Colliahighlighted the importance of “addressing a transcendental issue such as blood and plasma donation,” while thanking “for such a federal sense and for accompanying the health policy addressed by this management on the subject.”

For its part, the Undersecretary of Management of Services and Institutes, Edith Benedettihighlighted “the presence and work of all the teams, representatives of the national units, of the different provinces, accompanying them as public policy, as health policy.”

At your turn, the director of Transfusion Medicine of the Ministry of Health of the Nation, María Susana Pisarello, thanked the attendees for their commitment and work. “It fills me with emotion personally, with satisfaction, to always see our auditoriums full, this is something that we have to ensure continues among all jurisdictions,” she said.

And he added: “We have set different objectives for this event, first of all, strengthen knowledge through continuous training, as well as establish a priority agenda for hemotherapy in our country, promote participatory and federal work aimed at activities related to human blood, its components and derivatives, and socialize the actions and efforts carried out by this Directorate.”

Management in Transfusion Medicine

During the morning, the meeting of jurisdictional coordinators and transfusion medicine leaders from national hospitals took place and, in the followingnoon, the second module corresponding to the Management in Transfusion Medicine course: Self-sufficiency in Blood-derived Medications in our country was developed, with face-to-face modality and virtual.

Regarding the second module, the honorary and permanent advisor of the DMT, Daniel Fontana, explained that “We had the opportunity to have international exhibitors speak regarding plasma donation programs for the industry, and it was very interesting to listen to these presentations.”

And he added that “this day was very valuable because the general purpose of the course is generate integration work among the 24 provinces that ends with a work plan for the future to see how our country moves to increase the amount of human plasma that is donated, increase the amount of human plasma that is referred to the industry and to be able to have more products so that our patients can be treated without having to spend large figures of money for having to import them.”

This course is the fifth coordinated and carried out entirely by the DMT, it has more than 300 people enrolled from the 24 jurisdictions of the country and the national hospitals and is also intended for all social organizations so that they can integrate their work into the promotion of blood donation with plasma donation.
