Lausanne HC has announced the departure of its Slovak defender Martin Gernat, who will be replaced by Christian Djoos (Zug). At the offensive level, Finnish striker Antti Suomela has been confirmed. John Fust retains the sporting direction.
Antti Suomela will take on the No. 1 center position in Geoff Ward’s squad. Current SHL top scorer with Oskarshamn, the Finnish international also played for 3 seasons in the San Jose Sharks organization in the NHL.
The other arrival is that of Swedish defender Christian Djoos, who has been playing in Zug since 2021. The 28-year-old left-hander lifted the Stanley Cup during the 2017-2018 season with the Washington Capitals. The 2 reinforcements have signed up for 2 seasons in Lausanne.
Many departures
In terms of departures, Emilijus Krakauskas, Richard Panik, Andrew Calof, Eetu Laurikainen and Martin Gernat will not continue the adventure with the Lions. The Slovak defender, however, still had a valid contract for one season.
Finally, John Fust was confirmed in his role as sporting director. “The LHC can finally bet on a stability that we have too often lacked in the past“, said Chris Wolf, CEO of the Vaudois club, in a press release.
