National Hospital Survey Registered No Deaths During National Blackout

The National Hospital Survey reported that no deaths were recorded during the power outage that affected 20 of the country’s 24 states on Friday, August 30.

“During today’s blackout (August 30), we have been monitoring the situation in hospitals,” the National Hospital Survey said through its account on the social network X.

The report details that most of the hospitals monitored had a power generator activated to respond to the blackout. However, the Dr. Ángel Larralde Hospital in Carabobo state was the only one where the power generator did not operate during the contingency.

In Caracas, power plants were working but had to be turned on manually, said Mauro Zambrano, coordinator of the NGO Monitor Salud. However, in other states, the lack of fuel or the poor condition of power plants made it difficult for health centers to operate, limiting services to critical areas.

Health Minister Magaly Gutiérrez Viña stated via an Instagram account that monitoring was maintained to ensure the operation of the country’s 79 high-complexity hospitals.

Through a post on his Instagram account, he highlighted that since the morning hours of August 30, all health spaces were operational, as well as critical units, emergencies and trauma shock. Also intensive care units, surgical areas, dialysis units and blood banks.
