**Maria Lopez:** Thank you for having me.
**Editor:** As reported, there was a confrontation on November 2 in Tecate, Baja California, where two Colombian migrants were killed by the National Guard. What is your immediate reaction to this incident?
**Maria Lopez:** It’s an absolute tragedy and a deeply concerning reflection of the dangers that migrants face, not only at borders but also within the countries they pass through. The loss of lives in this context is heartbreaking and unacceptable.
**Editor:** President Claudia Sheinbaum mentioned in a recent press conference that an investigation is underway. Do you believe this investigation will lead to accountability?

Accountability requires real commitment from the authorities to not only investigate but also to ensure those responsible are held accountable.
**Editor:** There is also a call from human rights groups for clarity on the situation and for reparations for the victims’ families. What do you think should be done in response to these demands?
**Maria Lopez:** Authorities need to publicly share the findings of their investigation and commit to transparency in the process. In addition, providing support and reparations to the families affected is crucial. There needs to be a recognition of the human rights of migrants and that they aren’t just statistics but individuals with stories, families, and rights.
**Editor:** The incident has sparked widespread condemnation from various collectives and rights defenders. What role do you see civil society playing in ensuring justice for the victims?
