National Government activates an epidemiological surveillance plan against mpox

The Venezuelan government will implement an epidemiological surveillance plan to monitor monkeypox (mpox), which includes monitoring people arriving from countries with confirmed outbreaks of the disease.

«To enter the country, they must report their health status and personal data in the epidemiological surveillance form for medical follow-up with the aim of early detection of any suspected case.“, the Executive indicated in a statement published on Telegram by the Minister of Science and Technology, Gabriela Jiménez.

He also indicated that the corresponding procedures have begun for “to acquire the vaccine that guarantees the strengthening of the epidemiological fence for population groups with a high risk of exposure.”

“Our country has the medical, technological, and scientific capacity and the inter-institutional immediate response teams to address this situation comprehensively and in a timely manner, ensuring the diagnosis, medical care, follow-up, and monitoring required by applying the recommendations issued by the WHO (World Health Organization),” he added.

The government said that Venezuelan doctors and health personnel are prepared and that the Ministry of Health will “guarantee them everything necessary” for molecular testing and care in the event of a positive case being detected.

He also said that they will carry out information campaigns to warn the population about the symptoms, preventive measures and the importance of going to a health centre if there is any suspicion.

“Contact tracing will be implemented and tests will be carried out on close contacts of confirmed cases with mpox,” he said.
