2023-10-10 05:30:11

The police are organizing a fourth national enforcement action once morest distracted driving, which began this Tuesday at 12:01 a.m. and will end on Wednesday at 11:59 p.m. During these 48 hours, the agents will notably monitor the use of GSM while driving.

According to traffic statistics from the Integrated Police, 108,734 offenses related to GSM while driving were recorded last year, slightly fewer than in 2021 (115,094).

During the previous action, organized in May, the participating police services recorded a total of 2,681 offenses linked to the use of a mobile phone while driving.

The highway code prohibits drivers from using, holding or manipulating electronic devices equipped with a screen, unless they are attached to a support provided for this purpose.

In the event of an infringement, the amount of immediate collection is 174 euros, to which administrative costs must be added. The driving license may be subject to immediate withdrawal and in the event of summons to the police court, the fine can rise up to 4,000 euros.

In addition to the use of GSM while driving, 339 other forms of distraction were noted during last May’s action, such as reading the newspaper, putting on makeup or even shaving.
