At the National Assembly National Defense Committee plenary meeting, there was a fierce debate between the ruling and opposition parties over whether to adopt a witness for former President Moon Jae-in.
Rep. Kim Byung-joo, secretary of the Democratic Party of Korea, criticized, “I was surprised to see that former President Moon was included in the number of people requested by People’s Power lawmakers to attend, and I express a lot of concern and embarrassment.”
Rep. Kim Young-bae also pointed out that “I think there is a golden road” and “the outright attitude of using it as a forum for political disputes even before the start of the state audit.”
Then, Rep. Shin Won-sik, a secretary for the People’s Power, said, “Now, the public interest in the case of the attack of a public official at the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, the case of forced repatriation of North Korean fishermen to North Korea, and the controversy over the documents of the security guard, etc. There is no progress,” he explained.
“I don’t think there is a sanctuary for asking people’s suspicions whether it is a former president or an incumbent president,” he said.
Rep. Shin also dismissed the allegation that there was an order to adopt former President Moon as a witness, saying, “It was my pure opinion.”
As the war of words continued, Chairman Lee Hun-seung of People’s Power mediated, saying, “It is not appropriate to discuss further here.”
