National Day Parade: Thrilling Aerial Display by Military Aircraft Over Brussels

2023-07-21 17:08:00

The scene takes place this Friday around 4.15 p.m. on board one of the 27 military aircraft which take part, in the third dimension, in the National Day parade, before the motorized columns and on foot of La Défense, accompanied by the services which ensure the safety of the Belgian population.

The six helicopters flying over Brussels following taking off almost an hour earlier, from Beauvechain for the Agustas and two NH90 Cayman tactical transport (TTH) or from Coxyde, for the only NH90 in naval version (NFH), are among the first to appear in front of the royal gallery set up in Place des Palais. Only ten F-16 fighter-bombers (as many planes as years of King Philip’s reign). preceded them by drawing the national colors, with black rather blue, according to ground observers.

For Brice, the “nickname” (code name) of the second pilot of the Agusta registered H-36 – the captain is a woman, much more experienced -, as for all the pilots, it is an honor to be able to show their knowledge to the highest authorities of the country as well as to thousands of Belgians, present on the spot or following the festivities on television.

“Everything went well, we were on time,” he confided on his return to the ground to a few journalists invited to board the army helicopters.

“It’s always a special moment, it’s the stressful moment of the flight”, he added, reliving his passage – infrequent – above the capital
