National Council starts the autumn

The National Council ends its summer break on Wednesday with a first debate on six referendums. Several legislative decisions are planned for the plenary session, for example for more transparency in corona aid, granting of childcare allowance for Ukraine war refugees and easing the red-white-red card. The federal financial statements for 2021 and several reports from the Court of Auditors are also up for discussion.

The meeting begins with a “Current Hour” in which the SPÖ wants to discuss the effects of “record inflation” on pensioners. She calls for pensions to be adjusted to current inflation in order to prevent poverty and maintain purchasing power. The FPÖ is responsible for the choice of topics for the subsequent “Current Europe Hour”; they want to talk regarding “prosperity and security for Austria instead of EU sanctions and mass immigration”.
