The President discussed the incident from the previous day on Thursday morning, in which a man had boarded the government bench in the National Council. As President of the National Council Wolfgang Sobotka (ÖVP) informed the MPs today, the intruder was a “stalker”. That means he came into the plenary hall directly behind a club employee. A safety committee is to discuss how such incidents can be avoided in the future.

In any case, the club employees were asked to wear their ID cards visibly so that it is immediately clear whether they have access to the side areas of the plenary hall. There shouldn’t have been any danger. The man had been security checked at the entrance. He was registered for a one-hour visit to the gallery. In fact, however, he crept into the plenary hall and took a seat on the government bench, which was empty at the time. In a break in the sitting that was ordered immediately, he was taken out of the room without resistance. Before that he had declared: “Jesus is your salvation.”
