The National Campaign for the Right to Legal, Safe and Free Abortion called for “the effective implementation” of the Voluntary Interruption of Pregnancy (IVE) law “without barriers and throughout the national territory”, while the regional campaign of the City of Buenos Aires (CABA) of the collective convened a “round of conversation” with a handkerchief at the Buenos Aires Ministry of Health, on the occasion of commemorating today the International Day of Action for Women’s Health.
“In this new international day we claim the right to comprehensive health, which includes physical, mental and social health while we continue to demand the effective implementation of legal and voluntary abortion without barriers throughout the national territory,” they said in a statement.
And they added: “We know that we managed to decriminalize and legalize this right, but we observe that the implementation is very uneven and depends on multiple factors that we monitor from each of our regional offices.”
In this sense, they pointed out that “there are still barriers, delays and conscientious objectors that hinder access to the practice”, for this reason “we continue to demand adequate budgets from the national, provincial and local governments for the formation of health teams that are trained and that they guarantee the practice”.
“In addition, we demand the training of professionals and the provision of the necessary instruments to implement the MVA (manual uterine aspiration) technique in all health centers for those who request it,” they stressed.
“Likewise, we consider an urgent dissemination campaign necessary to report abortion as a right, but also how and where to request it, so that access is equitable and without barriers throughout the country,” they added.
And although, on the one hand, “more and more services guarantee quality abortions with a perspective of rights”; On the other hand, “women and young people contact us daily denouncing delays in care, lack of medicines, clandestine abortion circuits, violent care spaces and even the illegal sale of misoprostol”.
Additionally, the National Campaign for the Right to Legal, Safe and Free Abortion in the CABA region called tomorrow at 5:30 p.m. an “open dialogue” with this organization “to reaffirm what has already been achieved and continue organizing for what remains.”
The axes of this “round of conversation” will be the following: Law 27610. Do we know what it is regarding?, Access to information on IVE and Sexual and Reproductive Health, Access to IVE / ILE, Obstacles/experiences, Attacks from reactionary sectors and fundamentalists once morest the conquered rights. For 7:30 p.m. the closure with a scarf is scheduled, all in front of the Buenos Aires Ministry of Health (Bolívar 1).
