More than 400 bike riders from La Serena to Temuco will bring to life, this Saturday and Sunday, the third and fourth date of the 2024 Chile BMX Cup National Championship, which will mark the white launch of the new international bike cross circuit, which was built following a investment of 1,591 million 342 thousand pesos, contributed by the municipality of Chillán, the Regional Government of Ñuble and the IND Ñuble.
“We extend the most cordial welcome to all the athletes who will come to the city to enjoy this luxury track, in a tournament that will transform Chillán into the epicenter of Chillán bike cross. I hope you also enjoy the benefits of our city,” said the mayor of Chillán, Camilo Benavente, who will participate in the opening ceremony of the competition, this Saturday, starting at 10:40 a.m.
The president of the Chillán Bicicross Club, Alfredo Mariño, highlighted: “we are already fulfilling this dream that we have sought for years and that we thought would not see the light of day at some point, but the mayor, since he was director of the IND Bío Bío, was the great promoter of this project. We are going to have a historic National due to your call.”
The coach of the Chillán Bicicross Club for more than 25 years and current track administrator, Francisco Alveal, emphasized that “this is a dream come true. For years we wanted a track of this level, and how good it will be open for the municipal bike cross workshop, because I always dreamed that happiness would also be for the children who watched from outside the venue.”
The club’s historic cyclists, Angelines Nicoletta, former three-time world champion, Fernando Pulido, former continental champion and two-time planetary finalist, along with Sergio Millas, multi-time national champion and coach of the club’s promising players, toured the new track together and were amazed.
“This is a dream. It was unthinkable in our time and it is now a reality. I am excited to see it and know that it will be a contribution to the children who are running. Camilo (Benavente) has done a remarkable job in the Municipality of Chillán so that this project finally came to fruition and he is always contributing so that the community can play sports,” commented Angelines.
“I look at the track and I think I’m in a World Cup outside of Chile. It is spectacular. Now I hope that another Pan American will be held,” Pulido stressed.
“It will serve to train new runners and hopefully have another Pan American. Congratulations to all those who forged it,” concluded Sergio Millas.
This Saturday, following the opening, the qualifying rounds will begin at 11:00 a.m. and on Sunday at 10:30 a.m.
