National Bank losses rise to 142.4 billion

The turbulence on the global financial markets resulted in a record loss of CHF 142.4 billion for the Swiss National Bank in the first nine months of 2022. The distributions to the federal government and the cantons appear to be at risk.

The Swiss National Bank (SNB) posted a record loss for the period between January and September. She points for the three quarters a loss of 142 billion Swiss francs. This is the SNB’s biggest loss since it began operations in 1907. In the third quarter of this year alone, the loss totaled around CHF 47 billion.
