“I would like to apologize to these customers, this is not at all the experience we would have liked to give them,” offered the vice-president responsible for corporate accounts on LCN.

Geneviève Turbide-Potvin first gave a series of interviews to the written press on Monday. She was accompanied by the bank’s head of security, André Boucher.

The release aimed to calm things down after a series of articles which gave voice to defrauded entrepreneurs.

Their message on Monday was this: customers are responsible for their misfortune, but we will ultimately reimburse them.

“Finally”, because most of the fraud took place at the beginning of September and it took media intervention for the National Bank to finally react.

And now on Tuesday morning, during a series of interviews with the electronic media, the Bank increased the pace of its crisis management.

At Mario Dumont, Ms. Turbide-Potvin apologized. “We work hard one on one with each of these clients to recover the funds,” she told LCN.

Compensation?

The defrauded entrepreneurs were all defrauded using bank transfers. Some were robbed of $10,000, others $60,000 and still others $100,000 or $250,000.

Now that the Bank assures that they will all be reimbursed – not all defrauded customers will be – the question is whether they will be compensated.

Nothing is less certain, if we rely on the interview given by Ms. Turbide-Potvin on Monday.

She said she was “very proud” of the Bank, which was able to find the stolen amounts to better return them to customers.

“We have more than 150,000 business customers and the situation only affects a few dozen of them,” she insisted.
