Today, the opening day of the extraordinary National Assembly in August, the plenary meeting of the National Assembly’s Public Administration and Security Committee to discuss the Osong flood disaster and the Jamboree was disrupted amid conflicts between the ruling and opposition parties.

As the ruling and opposition parties might not reach an agreement over the attendance of Jeonbuk Governor Kim Kwan-young, not only members of the People’s Power, but also Minister of Public Administration and Security Lee Sang-min did not attend the meeting.

A plenary meeting of the Public Administration Committee of the National Assembly, which was scheduled to deal with the Osong underpass disaster, indiscriminate weapon crimes, and poor management of the Jamboree.

It was the first meeting of the provisional National Assembly in August, but it was lame from the start.

The power of the people insisted that Jeonbuk Governor Kim Kwan-young attend and take responsibility for the Jamboree incident, but when Governor Kim did not attend, all members except the secretary failed to attend the meeting.

“What’s the reason Kim Kwan-young, Governor of North Jeolla Province, can’t do that? Does it make sense that the Jamboree issue won’t be discussed at this place where the plenary meeting is held today?”

The Democratic Party of Korea insisted that, as originally agreed, inquiries and bill discussions related to the flood disaster should proceed, and that the power of the people to demand the attendance of Governor Kim Kwan-young was intended to shift the responsibility of the Jamboree to Jeollabuk-do.

“Inquiry on pending issues by the Minister of Public Administration and Security regarding the Jamboree incident is also scheduled. All of these issues were decided by consensus between the ruling and opposition parties, and the Minister of Public Administration and Security is the co-organizing chairperson of the Jamboree.”

Amid the confrontation between the two sides, Minister of Public Administration and Security Lee Sang-min and Chungcheongbuk-do Governor Kim Yeong-hwan, who was one of the people responsible for the Osong underpass disaster, also did not attend.

A plenary meeting of the National Assembly’s Defense Committee, which was held at the same time led by the opposition party, also ended without proper discussion.

The Democratic Party and the Justice Party argued that a quick response was necessary in connection with the suspicion of external pressure on the investigation into the death of Corporal Chae Su-geun, but the people’s strength was intended to water down the prosecution’s attendance scheduled for tomorrow.
