The National Assembly is gearing up for a pivotal vote on the newly proposed “Zhelyazkov” cabinet. The formal mandate, finalized just yesterday, was promptly delivered to President Rumen Radev by the nominated Prime minister. This marks a significant step in the country’s political transition.
The proposed government structure is set to include a Prime Minister, three Deputy Prime Ministers—one from each coalition party—and a total of 19 ministers. GERB-SDS will hold the lion’s share with eleven ministerial positions, while “BSP-United Left” and ITN will each secure four. Notably, DPS has pledged its support to the government without claiming any ministerial seats, ensuring a solid backing from 126 deputies in the plenary hall.

Prior to the public announcement of the “Zhelyazkov” Cabinet draft, GERB-SDS, “BSP-United Left,” and ITN formalized their collaboration with an 11-page agreement. This document outlines the shared vision and responsibilities of the coalition partners. An additional appendix details the terms of support from the DPS parliamentary group, emphasizing accountability by stipulating that any minister failing to execute the management program can be replaced.
In a move towards consensus-driven governance, the selection of deputy ministers and regional governors will not adhere to quotas. Instead, decisions will be reached through broad agreement facilitated by a Joint Management Council. This council will comprise three representatives from the main coalition parties and two from DPS, ensuring balanced oversight. Each party retains the right to withdraw from the governing arrangement by providing written justification to their counterparts.
Once the National Assembly concludes its vote, the transition of power to the new ministerial team will commence, marking the official start of the “Zhelyazkov” cabinet’s tenure.
