National Assembly passes Public Interpreters Law

The National Assembly (AN), in ordinary session this Tuesday, sanctioned the Law of Public Interpreters. The new legal norm was sent to the National Executive for the purposes of its promulgation.

The legal regulations, unanimously approved in the second discussion, are intended to regulate the exercise of the profession of public interpreter to strengthen legal certainty and ensure the rights and guarantees of people, especially in procedures and procedures before the State, refers a press release.

This law, which will repeal the current norm, consists of 18 articles, a repealing provision and a final provision. It also has the purpose of establishing the requirements and conditions for the exercise of the profession of public interpreter, supporting the accuracy and fidelity of the translations and interpretations in the procedures before the State.

Similarly, it seeks to ensure the recognition and use of official languages ​​in translations and interpretations, including Spanish, indigenous languages ​​and Venezuelan sign language. Likewise, provide for the means of State supervision so that the profession of public interpreter is exercised in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.

The legal text is governed by the principles of honesty, participation, speed, effectiveness, efficiency, transparency, accountability and responsibility in the exercise of public functions. Likewise, the law intends to update everything related to the exercise of the profession of public interpreter in order to strengthen legal certainty in terms of procedures and procedures before the State, as well as safeguard the rights of all people.

The new legal text frames its content in accordance with the principles of the Constitution of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela in terms of developing content in conditions of equal rights without distinction of race, color, lineage, sex, creed, social status, among other rights. . The social approach is aimed at gender equality, all of which is developed in the first five articles, accompanied by the different definitions that are established for a better understanding of this legal instrument.

The legal norm highlights that the Ministry of Popular Power for the Interior, Justice and Peace will be the governing body in matters of the profession of public interpreter.
