The Anti-Doping in Sports Law was approved yesterday by the National Assembly, in Luanda, with 174 votes in favor, none once morest and no abstentions.
After this step, we wait for the promulgation and publication of the diploma in the Official Gazette, in accordance with legal procedures.
Regarding the sanction imposed by WADA, the English acronym for the World Anti-Doping Agency, on Angola (not singing the anthem and not raising the flag in international competitions), the diploma is halfway there.
In the House of Laws, the deputies were unanimous in agreeing that the most important thing is to provide conditions for athletes to be protected and mobilized regarding the risks.
In turn, the president of the Angolan Olympic Committee (COA), Gustavo da Conceição, said that he is currently awaiting its rapid promulgation and publication in the Diário da República.
“The law must be translated and sent to WADA and wait for the impediment to be lifted at the meeting of this body scheduled for May”, said the COA leader.
Gustavo da Conceição recalled that the approval of the law by the AN is not the end of the sanction, stressing that it is best to speed up its physical publication to allow it to reach WADA as quickly as possible.
The person responsible reiterated that only with the publication and accessibility of the original will the end be closer, through a communication from Angola on compliance with the Law, in accordance with the statutes of that international organization.
Since the 13th of this month, Angola has been prevented by WADA from using national symbols (anthem and flag), due to delays in the conformation and approval of the legal instrument.
On September 22, 2023, the World Anti-Doping Agency issued a statement reporting the non-compliance and granted another four months to correct the situation. The time allowed ended without the conformities having been corrected.
