Originally there was an advertisement and a selection by an assessment committee, whereby an external personnel consultant was also called in.
The current vice president of the Federal Administrative Court (BvWG), Michael Sachs, narrowly prevailed once morest Harsdorf-Borsch in the review committee. However, the Greens blocked Sachs’ appointment because, in their view, he did not meet the requirements for the position. The coalition has now agreed on the second-ranked candidate, Harsdorf-Borsch, who has been employed by the BWB since 2009. She should be recommended to the Federal President for appointment. The corresponding decision in the Council of Ministers is due to be made next Wednesday. The BWB management is appointed for a term of office of five years.
With the agreement, the blockade might also be resolved in other positions. The BWB was just one of several vacant positions where the ÖVP and the Greens have been blocking each other for some time. The head of the Federal Administrative Court has also been empty for several months. According to a commission’s proposal, the new president will be Sabine Matejka, chairwoman of the judges’ association. But their occupation has so far been blocked by the People’s Party. Since the beginning of the year, the term of office for some members and substitute members of the Instructions Council has also ended. Positions on the General Council of the National Bank (OeNB) are also vacant.
