NASA’s Ingenuity helicopter has completed 55 flights to the Red Planet, the agency announced on Wednesday.
The helicopter made its 55th flight on August 12, during which it reached an altitude of ten meters and traveled 264 meters in 143 seconds, according to NASA.
The helicopter arrived in Jezero Crater on February 18, 2021, attached to NASA’s Perseverance explorer robot. This is a technology demonstration aimed at testing powered flight on another planet for the first time.
Ingenuity was designed to fly for up to 90 seconds, a distance of almost 300 meters each time and regarding 3 to 4.5 meters above the ground, according to NASA.
