The International Space Agency “NASA” announced the discovery of the “mini-Neptune” planet, which was monitored by the “James Webb” space telescope outside the solar system, pointing to the possibility that the extremely hot planet had vast water bodies, as its atmosphere is characterized by massive saturation with water vapor.

A study conducted by researchers from the University of Maryland, USA, and published by the scientific journal “Nature”, stated that astronomers call the discovered planet GJ 1214 b, and it is completely covered with a kind of fog or layer of clouds, indicating that it contained large amounts of water and ice at the time of its formation.

NASA added that the research team was able to create a heat map of the planet as it orbits its star to reveal the composition of its atmosphere, using the MIRI instrument that displays wavelengths of light outside the part of the electromagnetic spectrum that the human eye can see.
