The Christmas season is approaching, and NASA has recently shared a composite image called the “Christmas Tree Cluster.” Through color processing and direction rotation, the star cluster numbered NGC 2264 has a more festive atmosphere.

According to a report in the British newspaper “The Mirror”, NASA’s Chandra X-ray Observatory recently photographed this star cluster. The cluster number is NGC 2264. The stars inside it are very young, with ages ranging from 1 million to 5 million. Within ten thousand years, the mass of the star ranges from one-tenth to seven times that of the sun, and the star cluster is about 2,500 light-years away from the earth.

In order to make NGC 2264 more festive, data synthesis from the WIYN telescope was added. The green color was also post-processed, and the blue and white spots are the results of X-rays detected by the telescope. In addition, astronomers also combined the images into Rotated about 160 degrees clockwise so it looks more like the top of the Christmas tree is facing up the picture.

In fact, NASA also shared a picture that resembled a “Christmas wreath” on Christmas Eve in 2018. Its name is “RS Puppis” (RS Puppis), a Cepheid variable star about 6,500 light-years away from the earth. It is surrounded by dust and emits bright light to the dust. When reflected by the dust, it produces reflected light, just like Christmas. of sparkling garlands.
