NASA ready to set moon standard time

NASA ready to set moon standard time

If someone asks you what time it is on the moon, how will you answer it?

The fact is that there is no time zone on the moon like our earth, from which time can be determined, that is, what is the standard time of the moon, it is not yet determined.

This is the reason why the American space agency NASA has been instructed by the White House to develop a time zone for the moon. This time zone will be used for future missions to the Moon.

Lunar Coordinated Time (LUC) will help astronauts landing on the Moon as well as control centers on Earth to work more efficiently.

It should be noted that the time on the Moon is 58 microseconds longer than on the Earth due to the reduced gravity and the speed of the Moon’s rotation.

The Moon currently has no official time zone and each country uses its own time zone for space programs there, which is usually based on Universal Time.

NASA will work with the US Department of Commerce, Defense, State and others to develop a final plan for the Moon’s time zone by December 31, 2026.

According to the report, this time zone will also help with navigation on the Moon, as currently robotic missions there face difficulties in using GPS to match Earth time.

It should be noted that during the human missions sent by the United States to the moon, the astronauts used the Coordinated Universal Time (UTC).

NASA will launch the Artemis 3 mission to land humans on the moon in 2026, while China is also planning to send humans to the lunar surface by 2030.

Both countries will send manned missions to the South Pole of the Moon.
