NASA Mars Helicopter Completes 67th Mars Flyby

NASA’s Mars helicopter completed its 67th flyby of the surface of the Red Planet over the weekend, the agency reported Monday.

The helicopter reached an altitude of 12 meters and traveled 393 meters for more than two minutes on Saturday, according to NASA.

This helicopter, named Ingenuity, arrived at the Martian crater of Jezero on February 18, 2021, attached to NASA’s “Perseverance” rover vehicle. This helicopter constitutes a technology demonstration and a test of powered flight on a planet other than Earth for the first time.

The helicopter was designed to fly for up to 90 seconds, for distances of up to 300 meters in one go, and with an altitude above the ground of approximately 3 to 4.5 meters, according to NASA.
