NASA Last year’s average temperature in the world was the fifth highest in history Warning bell for progress of global warming | NHK

NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) announced that the average global temperature last year was the fifth highest in recorded history.

NASA announced on the 12th that the average global temperature last year was regarding 1.1 degrees higher than before the industrial revolution, making it the fifth highest since 1880, when observations began.

Regarding the cause of the rise in average temperature, NASA said that the “La Niña” phenomenon, in which the sea surface temperature off the coast of South America cools down, may have held the rise in global temperature by regarding 0.06 degrees, but the amount of carbon dioxide emissions increased last year. I think it’s because it hit a record high.

This is the eighth consecutive year that the global average temperature has been more than 1°C above pre-industrial levels.

In addition, NASA points out that abnormal weather is increasing, such as heavy rain in Pakistan and a series of serious droughts in the United States due to rising temperatures.

Gavin Schmidt, director of NASA’s Goddard Space Science Institute, said, “This year will be warmer than last year because the impact of the La Niña phenomenon will be reduced,” and warns of the progress of global warming.
