The US space agency (NASA) will launch a broadcast platform that displays content on demand, and it will be called “NASA Plus”. The agency did not specify a specific date for the launch of the platform, but said that it is supposed to become available “later this year.”
The new, ad-free streaming service will be available on the NASA pilot website and on the NASA app.
In its announcement last Thursday, the agency pledged to promote the content across its various web services, and to add new features to its science-focused site.
And “NASA” promised that the new streaming service will not require a paid subscription, and will be available on iOS and Android devices.
In a teaser of the service, NASA says the platform will provide access to a wide range of the agency’s public content, including children’s educational content and documentaries.
NASA currently uses NASA TV to display most public educational visual content and live broadcasts of rocket launches.
The agency maintains a catalog of 24/7 cable-like content on both the NASA website and YouTube, which has been streaming live and continuously on YouTube since 2018.
Now, the new platform will resemble “Netflix” and its counterparts, but it will offer space-specific content.
