Center for the Study of Near-Earth Objects The United States Aerospace Administration (NASA) has announced that an asteroid regarding 1 km in diameter will come closest to Earth on January 18.

NASA says the asteroid, codenamed 7482 (1994 PC1), will orbit close to Earth at a distance of 1.9 million kilometers at a speed of 76,192 kilometers per hour.

7482 (1994 PC1) is not the largest asteroid to ever approach Earth. The largest of these, 3122 Florence (1981 ET3), orbited near Earth on September 1, 2017, is 8.8 km wide.
