ISIS is raising its head once more. After the attack in Moscow, Italy and Europe re-evaluate the risk represented by terrorism, although it has never subsided. The level of security in our country, since October 7, 2023, the date of the Hamas attack once morest Israel, has been at the highest level. And following the massacre at Crocus City Hall, tomorrow morning at the Interior Ministry there will be a meeting of the National Committee for Public Order and Security dedicated to an analysis of the situation following the terrorist attack in Moscow. Among the objectives is the protection of sensitive places. At the moment, following a reconnaissance, the very first level targets are around 250. The prefectures have the obligation to constantly monitor and update this map which, especially on the eve of the Easter holidays, can be integrated. A sort of dynamic census that also takes into account the worsening of the international context, from the crisis in the Middle East to the war in Ukraine and now also the terrorist attack that occurred in Russia. In general, the Ministry of the Interior informs that there are two levels of mobilization: prevention and protection of sensitive objectives.
In the latter case, since the outbreak of the war between Israel and Gaza, synagogues, schools and Jewish aggregation centers have been under close monitoring. Added to these are airports, railway stations, embassies, airlines and all those places where gatherings can occur. And speaking of prevention, from 7 October 2023 to today, 47 individuals have been expelled for security reasons, of which 9 by order of the Minister of the Interior. The expulsions involved extremists, radicalized individuals or presumed terrorists. In total, 77 expulsion orders for security reasons were carried out last year, of which five were issued by the Minister of the Interior. In 2024, however, there will be 23 provisions, also in this case, five issued by the Minister of the Interior.
According to our intelligence, during 2023, “Italy has confirmed itself as a potential target” of Islamist terrorism “due to its centrality in the Christian world, its commitment to the anti-Daesh coalition and the presence of symbolic places of history Western.” In general, last year «we witnessed the proliferation of reports relating to possible hostile plans in Europe by young internet users, mostly supporters of Daesh, who were part of virtual networks and intended to carry out attacks in their countries of residence. In the sense of the case, there have been various judicial police operations which have disrupted hostile planning in various European nations, including the one in Austria in June which involved three Austrians, two of whom were minors, accused of wanting to carry out an attack on the of the Gay Pride in Vienna”. At the moment, however, according to what transpires from the Interior Ministry, “no specific elements have emerged regarding hostile initiatives being prepared”. However, “there is a state of maximum alert” but “without alarmism”.
