Manchester United alumnus Scott McTominay swapped Manchester for Naples this summer and moved to the Italian league.
The £25m bid was accepted by Manchester United due to the midfielder’s contractual situation as well as profit and sustainability (PSR) pressures.
Napoli’s sporting director, Giovanni Mannawas initially surprised by the Scot’s willingness to change colours and close his chapter in the Premier League, despite a financially higher offer from Fulham.
However, as he said in an interview with CalcioNapoli24, he is proud to have managed to finalize the transfer.
“First of all, I have to say that the player really wanted to come to Napoli. It was really satisfying. If a player who plays in the Premier League for Manchester United decides to join Napoli, we should all be proud of that.”
– Initially I did not believe we would be able to close this move, despite the contacts that were established with his agent at the beginning of the transfer window.
“We maintained that relationship throughout the summer until we met with Manchester United and understood that a deal could be done.
